Measure The Configuration That Will Actually Move
Our suggested piece register gives each pallet or crate a reference and records maximum outer length, width, height and gross weight after packing. Include the pallet base, protection and protruding parts in the review. State units and mark preliminary supplier values as estimates. Photograph the complete unit from several sides and link the photos to its reference. If you compare two packing options, keep separate dimensions, weights and assumptions for each option.
Explain The Stacking Restriction
DHL Express Netherlands identifies content, shape, packaging and do-not-stack instructions when explaining its non-stackable pallet surcharge. Our quotation brief asks why the restriction exists and who supplied it. Ask the packer to state any assessed load limit instead of inferring strength from an intact carton. Keep upright-only or no-tilt instructions separate from stacking instructions. A label communicates a requirement; ask the proposed carrier to confirm whether the selected service can meet it.
Review Collection, Transfer And Unloading
DHL UK highlights stability and forklift access in its large-shipment guidance. Before collection, ask which lifting method is available at origin and destination and whether the access route accommodates the finished unit. For irregular equipment, request a qualified handling plan; do not invent lifting points or a center of gravity from photographs. Ask the booking contact to review the complete route, including transfer locations. A workable collection arrangement alone does not confirm aircraft, vehicle or final-site acceptance.
Compare The Same Scope And Revise Changed Packing
Request an itemized quotation showing the assumed package configuration, transport service, restrictions and separately priced handling. Ask how a non-stackable or oversized condition affects that specific offer; there is no universal surcharge or dimensional rule. Record validity and the version of the piece list reviewed. If a crate, pallet or restriction changes, obtain a revised acceptance and price before releasing the goods. Keep the unloading appointment, equipment and contact details alongside the destination address.
Dispatch Checklist
- Each finished piece has measured dimensions, weight, units and photographs.
- Stacking, upright and tilt restrictions are stated separately.
- Origin and destination handling arrangements are reviewed.
- The quotation and acceptance reference the same packing version.
Worked Example
Illustrative comparison: a product is 110 × 70 × 90 cm; its finished pallet is 120 × 80 × 110 cm. Record 1.056 m³ for the finished rectangular envelope, not 0.693 m³ for the bare product. These invented dimensions explain the record; they do not establish a carrier’s billable weight or acceptance.

DHL references describe their respective markets and services. They do not establish Jeton rates, universal size limits or acceptance. Our register supports a quotation review; packaging suitability and handling still require the relevant packer and carrier assessment.
